Trend Alert: The Choker Neckline

Trends are a tricky beast. Often bringing us horrendous looks like denim skirts and ugg boots or the infamous Juicy tracksuit. I shudder at the things we thought were cool in the early 2000s! I blame Paris Hilton.

With this kind of terrifying history behind fashion trends, I've started to look at them with a more critical eye. Maybe it’s a late 20s thing or perhaps my style has changed, but I no longer thrive off of staying on top of the latest and greatest.

Now… with that said a trend or two does come along that strikes me as an instant classic. The choker neckline is precisely the type of trend I’m gladly willing to buy into.

Bloggers, celebrities, and numerous other style stars are sporting the look. It’s an innovative silhouette that marries accessory with clothing. Who else is all for eliminating extra steps like having to accessorize? Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Versatility is another element transforming trends into classics. A choker neckline top or dress can either be dressed up or down depending on the material and styling. In the celeb example they are for sure the dressy version, which I’d love to emulate for a night out (but with a higher neckline -- eek on the plunging).

In my look I bring you a more toned down and semi-casual version. Want it way more casual? Throw on a great pair of high top sneakers or even Doc Martens for a grungy effect. Then switch out the leather for a jean jacket and see the look completely transform!
